Brief
On April 23, 2001, the U.S. Supreme Court granted certiorari in the case, and without hearing oral argument, issued a unanimous per curiam opinion, reversing the opinion of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
The case involved the sexual harassment complaints of a female employee who said she was disciplined for objecting to statements made by a co-worker and one of her supervisors.
The unanimous Court held that ""no reasonable person could have believed that the single incident"" involved in the case violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, by retaliating against the employee.
